Our technology
vision for the Newfane
Central School District is to:
-
Enable the members of our school
and community to reach their highest potential through the seamless
integration of technology into all learning opportunities.
-
Provide technology tools for the
improvement of student motivation and learning.
-
Assist teachers with the
integration of technology across the curriculum.
-
Provide students with the
ability to access, exchange, and analyze information from electronic
sources in order to function in a technological world.
-
Restructure the learning
environment to produce self-directed, critical thinkers who have greater
control over their own learning.
-
Empower all within the school
and community to become lifelong learners by providing equal and adequate
access to comprehensive information resources.
The Newfane Central School
District is committed to the use of current and future technologies with the
intent of enhancing not only teaching and learning, but the total operation
and management of the district. The following are some recent
developments:
-
Our recent capital project has provided
fiber-optic connections for all buildings in the district.
-
All classrooms and offices are equipped
with a laser printer. Elementary grades 1-6 have pods of six
computers per classroom. The middle school has two multi-purpose
computer labs. Middle school and high school science classrooms have
pods of six computers. There are three business classrooms/labs and
a writing lab in the high school. The high school library has
sixteen student workstations.
-
All teachers in the district have been
issued a laptop in order to provide equal access to technology for all
instructional staff. Laptops are networked during the school day for
internet and e-mail access as well as for printing.
-
Twenty data projectors are in use
district-wide. A centralized media-retrieval system has recently
been installed. Cable TV is also available with TV monitors being
installed in every room.
-
Members of our K-12 Faculty have
written Technology Standards for our district. This document
includes a Scope and Sequence Matrix, grade-level goals for understanding
applications and the effect of technology, goals for accessing and
processing information ethically and effectively, and goals for generating
and transferring information. Our Technology Standards outline the
behaviors that are expected at each grade level. They are also
aligned with the New York State Standards and the ISTE (International
Society for Technology in Education) National Education Technology
Standards for students and teachers.
