Independent Reading Program

The requirements for this year’s independent reading program are as follows:

In order to complete the independent reading program, students must read the provided book for their  grade-level, one additional title from the list provided, and book summary sheets for each. 

To earn the field trip incentive, students must read an additional two titles from the book list and summary forms for each. 

The required reading titles are:

Frindle by Andrew Clements for students entering 6^th grade

Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick for students entering 7^th grade

Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt for students entering 8^th grade

All reading logs and required reading books are due given to your homeroom teacher by Friday, September 19, 2008.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. May I choose a book not on the list?  No, the selection has been expanded this year and you must choose from the titles listed.
2. I lost my reading logs and/or the reading lists.  Where can I get more copies?  From the Newfane Free Library or online at www.newfane.wnyric.org.  Click on “Schools” then “Middle House” then “Summer reading.”
3. Will I get a grade for the reading logs?  Yes--if summaries will be checked for completion. 
4. Can I read more than two books?  Absolutely! Students who read four titles this summer (the required reading title plus three more from the list for your grade) and turn in four reading logs will be rewarded with an activity at the beginning of next school year!
